This is different concept in the presentation of scale model vehicles. Instead of the high level of detail usual in the die cast ranges, these models present the vehicles in their basic form. All are made to the standard collector's scale of 1/43 and each model carries a serial number and is accompanied by a certificate authenticity.
They have been described in different ways, such as sculptures or being like the original clay model that the vehicle manufacturers make as part of their development programmes.

The Aero X isn't the precursor to a production model, but a pure show car, a brand-building exercise and an indication of a bolder future design direction.
This two-seater has, instead of doors or windscreen pillars, a wraparound cockpit canopy, as on a jet plane. The Aero X's exterior is almost ornament-free - no door handles, rubbing strips or spoilers.
Although Aero X is just a showcase prototype, it is fitted with a 400bhp/500Nm Biopower version of the Holden-sourced 2.8 V6, equipped with a pair of turbos and capable of running on pure ethanol - which allows for a higher compression ratio and thus a higher power output.

In the autumn of 1945, Saab decided to start making cars. Small, light and robust cars of a type that had grown popular immediately before World War II. The project was assigned number 92 (civil Saab projects were assigned a number starting 9) and work on it was begun immediately under the direction of design engineer Gunnar Ljungstrom.
Stylist Sixten Sason sketched the bodywork, while the engine, gearbox and some other mechanical components for the prototype were taken from a DKW and other cars.
Prototype car No. 001 was ready to drive by the summer of 1946 and was immediately road tested round the clock, day and night, without a stop.

On the scene just one year after the launch of the Saab 9000, and another product of the small but perfectly formed design department at Trollhattan, the EV-1 was a sports coupe based on the 900 Turbo 16. However, it was never destined for production; it was developed as a fully functional and roadworthy future design study.
Except for the modified chassis, front suspension and rear axle, the components of the EV-1 come direct from the Saab 900 Turbo 16. With a 0-100kmh time of just 5.9 seconds, the performance of the EV-1 is comparable to some of the best sports cars.

Catherina is a sports car prototype from the early 1960s. Saab's designer Sixten Sason had sketched a small sports coupe for himself. Around this time plans for a new Saab sports car were taking shape, so Sason's mission was to adapt his model to possible full-scale production.
In January of 1963 the work started on it in earnest. To speed things up, the Catherina utilised many components of the contemporary Saab 96 and shared the same wheelbase, which was longer than the finally accepted design.
The first prototype was shown to the public in April 2 1966. Its features included a removable targa top. This model is presented with the targa top in place.
The Catherina prototype is now on show in the Saab Museum in Trollhattan.

In 1960 the Saab 93f was being replaced by the Saab 96 and a new 841 cc engine was developed. The competition and testing departments of Saab did not want to see any series produced sports engines with the new size until they had the chance to try some new ideas. These ideas led to the creation of these Formula Junior race cars with which Saab surprised the motor racing world in the autumn of 1960. The cars first showed up at the Gelleras racetrack at Karlskoga and then at the Djurgards race (Elaintarhanajot) in Helsinki (Finland), in 1961, finishing 4th and 5th.
The body design was unusual. Instead of using a multi-tubular spaceframe chassis, like other Formula Junior cars, Saab chose to construct an advanced aluminium monocoque car, with plastic nose-cone.
Only two cars were built, as later regulations made them even less competitive. They were retired at the end of the 1961 racing season.
